Final Wine Tasting of the Year - March 22nd 2013

Which day: Friday, March 22, 2013
When: 7 to 9 pm
Where: UBC Student Union Building Room 206

Hey y'all! We're nearing the end of our first year and I can't wait. Before I get into the deets for our last tasting, we are indeed holding elections for the next year. So if you're interested, e-mail us (ubcwineclub@gmail.com) and show up this Friday at 6PM instead of the usual 7PM. Let us know if you have any questions about any of the positions. Furthermore, a lot of things are still malleable or overlap-able: things and positions will change throughout the year, and we'll let y'all know if they do. We also enjoy input!

Positions open to members:

President
- master of all

Secretary
- Initiate and take minutes for meetings.

Treasurer
- Responsible for telling me that I can't have expensive wine.

VP External
- In charge of sponsorships and perhaps club collaborations.

VP Internal
- In charge of alcohol licensing for events; must be present at all events.

Positions open to anyone:

Historian
- Behind the camera. Upload the pictures of us having fun on Facebook. Master of our twitter feed!

Wine Expert (Several positions open)
- It's important to get some input on the wines that you guys want to try. Discuss ideas with me, and perhaps help lead tastings!

Promotions
- In charge of promotions and advertising.

Graphic Designer
- Graphic Designer

Social Events Co-ordinator
- In charge of external events for the club (e.g. our trip to Lulu Island Winery in the fall)

Perhaps you just want to help out
- so let us know :) Extra hands are always helpful.

SO, OUR LAST TASTING. Sad. Oh well, though.

The theme is somewhat of a spring sort of feeling. Fresh, vibrant, beach wines that you can enjoy under the sun. I mean it just hailed like twice in the past hour anyways, and it's nice to have some sunshine in a glass. Why not? Let's end our last tasting of the year with a bang! Maybe like a modest bang, though, like a single firecracker, or like a water balloon that anticlimactically doesn't explode at first. I drink too mdfuvch

lol jk

As per usual, the entrance fee is 7 dollars for non-members, and entry is free for members. SEE Y'ALL THERE!

There are a limited number of spots to our room, so RSVP via the email we sent (priority given to members).

Some important info for this Friday:
- PLEASE bring 2 pieces of government issued ID (You must be 19)! One MUST have your picture on it (passport, driver's licence, etc.), and the other needs to have your name imprinted (care card, credit/debit card etc). Note that UBC student cards do not legally count. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
- The tasting is this Friday at 7PM, in room 206 of the SUB!
- Make sure you guys have something to eat before/during the tasting. Drinking on an empty stomach leads to bad times.

Cheers,

March 15th- Italian Wines!

Which day: Friday, March 15, 2013
When: 7 to 9 pm
Where: UBC Student Union Building Room 206

The end of the year is so close, I can taste it.

Wine, that is.

Italy! One of the most complicated regions, with area-specific regulations that can be confusing. It might be difficult to find a common thread in the 20-somewhat different regions of Italy, but acidic, tannic, and spicy red wines seem to be the key, while her whites are often crisp and clean. Perfect wines for just wanting to eat everything, which seems fit for this time of year. Come join us? Let's suffer through these last couple of weeks together! Yay!

Speaking of food, HAPPY PI DAY!

As per usual, the entrance fee is 7 dollars for non-members, and entry is free for members.

Not Quite a Wine Tasting - Friday, March 1st, 2013

Hey all, I hope your reading break was awesome!

It almost feels like our awesome last wine tasting with the UBC Jazz Cafe was just yesterday, and we already have another one this Friday to start off March. NO fear - it's BEER this time, and we'll have a great opportunity to try some things we might not have tried before - perhaps some lambics, saisons, IPAs, and so on. Beer is clearly (and generally) cheaper than its grapey cousin, so hopefully we'll have more of a variety this time around.

As per usual, the entrance fee is 7 dollars for non-members, and entry is free for members.

Some important info for this Friday:

UBC Wine Club x UBC Jazz Café: Friday, February 15th, 2013

Hey all! We're excited to announce that our second wine tasting this semester on Friday the 15th will be a collaboration with the UBC Jazz Cafe

Along with our room, the UBC Jazz Café will have live dance-worthy music along with scrumptious goodies on sale. This would be a pretty cool opportunity to experiment with some wine and food pairings. Wine and jazz? Yes, please.

The Facebook event is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/545906342132299/

As per usual, the entrance fee is 7 dollars for non-members, and entry is free for members. In addition, you may present your membership card to the UBC Jazz Café's room and get in for free! (Otherwise, the entrance fee is 3 dollars. Still a steal.)

November 8th Spain and Portugal Wine Tasting

Which day: Friday, Nov. 8, 2012
When: 7 until 9 pm
Where: UBC Student Union Building Room 212A

Check-in: 6:30
Tasting will begin at 7pm!

This time, we'll be covering two countries wines in particular: Spain and Portugal!
From what Joshua has told, expect to see especially savoury rich reds, as well as fruity white wines to round it all off. These all are value wines, important for us broke college students!

Please remember:

Drop-in fee for non-members is 7 dollars
- 2 pieces of legit ID!
- Bring some snacks or dinner! Although we don't have something as versatile as a sparkling wine or rosé, medium to light meats might be a good idea for this tasting. Or seafood for the whites! Or you can experiment, as a lot of Spanish winemaking techniques are.
- Make sure your tummy is contento before tasting!
- Be sure to visit/join our Facebook page and blog:

It's the Zombie Apocalypse! Well actually it's just a Halloween themed Wine Tasting!

It's that scary time of year again (at least it's supposed to be right?). For the sake of the upcoming fake holiday, we can now explore together which wines would pair well with a zombie apocalypse!

According to our wine expert Josh, apparently these! :

http://www.joshlikeswine.com/2012/09/29/what-wines-pair-with-a-zombie-apocalypse/

This Friday will be your chance to discover these post apocalyptic wines, everything from a sweet to super earth red wines from countries like France, Spain, Chile, and Italy.

Please note that the cap is around 40 people this time, so please RSVP via the emails that we have sent when as soon as possible!

Obligatory reminders:
- 2 pieces of legit ID!
- As per usual, the tasting will take place from 7PM to roughly 9PM in room 212A of the SUB.
- Bring some dinner or snacks! Sparkling wine is versatile, and we have two sweet wines, so take advantage of that and bring a muffin or chips or something. Or meat. For the red wine.
- Make sure your tummy is happy before tasting!
- Be sure to visit/join our Facebook page and blog:

See you guys there! It won't be scary.... or will it?
